It wasn't just plebs looking for free food who stopped Steak 'N Shake yesterday. David Letterman, who films so close he says the building has "smelled like grilled onions" all week, went too. Sort of.

Close to 200 people gathered in the cold and wet this morning to score a year's worth of free Steak 'N Shake burgers from the Midwestern import and we were there to witness the hysteria!

Neither rain nor wind will keep New Yorkers from the promise of a free year of Midwestern burgers, it seems!

Start lining up now, Midwesterners.

It's looking like the impending New York Steak 'n Shake will open right next to the Ed Sullivan Theater.
