Yesterday morning around 5:40 a.m., police say an 85-year-old walking on East 83rd Street was grabbed by a man, dragged to a building near Madison Avenue, and forced to perform oral sex on him. The horrifying attack was caught on a surveillance camera in the upscale neighborhood.
The Daily News spoke to a doorman who saw the video and reports that the victim, who is 100 pounds, was approached by a man who "was lurking on the sidewalk at MadisonAve. and E. 83rd St., pretending to talk on a cell phone, before he pounced... He wrapped his bulging, tattooed arms around the elderly woman's head and dragged her down E. 83rd St. to the sunken stoop of a five-story luxury residence." The doorman said, "You could see him hold her in a headlock. He dragged her from the corner down to the stoop of the brownstone." Another woman who was shown surveillance photos said, "Her shirt was up. It looked like he was covering her mouth."
The suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, about 5'10", also took the victim's jewelry. The crime has alarmed everyone in the neighborhood, from residents to businesses. A worker at City Market Cafe told the Post, "What kind of crazy sicko would do that to an old woman? It's just terrible," while a Gymboree worker said, "I can't believe this happened right here! I get to work early all the time so that is really scary."
