A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in front of the William H. Taft Educational Campus in the Bronx on Monday morning, police said.
Officers responding to the incident, which happened at around 9:30 a.m., found the teen with a stab wound in his buttocks, according to the NYPD. EMS workers transported him to a hospital in stable condition, police said.
An NYPD spokesperson said the teen told police he was walking to school when he was approached by two people — one punched him in the face, and the other stabbed him in the buttocks. Both people, described by police only as “male,” then fled the scene, running northbound on Sheridan Avenue, police said.
The educational complex houses several high schools, including the Bronx High School for Medical Science and Bronx Collegiate Academy. New York City public schools started on Thursday.
NYPD data show school safety personnel recovered 57 weapons from city schools from January to June, including knives, box cutters and mace.
No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon, and police said the investigation was ongoing.
