We knew that Mayor Bloomberg's city budget was going to be painful, but we didn't realize it would lead to a fight between reporters at City Hall. Witnesses tell the Daily News that two reporters, WABC 7's Dave Evans and blogger Rafael Martinez Alequin, got into a heated exchange while listening to Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott, with Evans saying, "Don’t touch me. Don’t touch me like that again, or I’ll flatten you," and Alequin replying, "f---ing f-----t." Uh-oh.
The News reports, "Enraged, Evans yelled 'What did you just say to me?' and lunged toward Alequin - but Walcott stepped in." NY1's education reporter Lindsay Christ Tweeted, "There are tons of security guards around but it was the Chancellor who moved right in and got in the middle of the fight. He got shoved hard." Evans and Alequin still yelled and pushed each other, as Walcott told everyone to calm down and, according to the News, "He restrained Evans even as the cameramen resumed their shoving in order to get a better vantage point of the bizarre scene."
Alequin told the News, "He pushed me and kicked me out of there. I said ‘Don't you ever do that again.’ Then I made a big mistake, and for that I'm sorry... I did it in a moment of anger. I regret saying that word."
