The full City Council is in session Thursday for its scheduled stated meeting. Here are a few items of interest on the agenda:

  • A bill introduced by Councilmember Lincoln Restler is expected to go up for a vote, which would prohibit employment agreements from shortening the window of time for employees to file claims about workplace discrimination, harassment or violence. Workers currently have one year to file claims about discrimination, and three years to file claims about gender-based harassment. This bill would prevent contracts from trying to decrease those periods.
  • Two bills introduced by Councilmember Joseph Borelli are expected to go up for a vote — both involving members of the FDNY. One bill would require the fire department to provide EMS workers with bulletproof vests. The other bill would mandate de-escalation and self-defense training for EMS workers within the FDNY.

The bills are expected to be voted out of committee Thursday morning and head to the full Council for a vote.

Restler will also introduce a bill, first reported by Gothamist, that would mandate the city make a dashboard of vacant supportive housing units, forcing more transparency and accountability around the program that provides subsidized housing for people who are homeless, struggling with substance abuse, mental health issues or were formerly incarcerated.

Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is expected to hold a press conference with other members before the 1:30 p.m. meeting.
