A one-month-old baby died yesterday evening after being found bleeding and unconscious in an East Harlem apartment, and police have reportedly taken his 31-year-old mother in for questioning.
The NYPD says that officers found 23-day-old Deon McNeil unconscious and unresponsive inside an apartment at the Washington Houses at 1895 2nd Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. He was transported to Metropolitan Hospital and pronounced dead.
CBS 2 reports that the infant was "battered and bleeding" when officers arrived, and was found in his older brother's arms. Officials have not yet determined the baby's cause of death, but his mother, 31-year-old Ebony McNeil, has been questioned by police. Her other children have since been put in family members' care.
