Today at 11 a.m., NJ Governor Chris Christie is having his 110th town hall meeting—and the first since it was revealed one of his top aides ordered the closing of Fort Lee's lanes to the George Washington Bridge. Since Bridgegate erupted, Christie has been trying to assert his total ignorance of the matter and shift people's attention on non-GWB related things. So here's a GIF of him tossing his jacket, to get people PUMPED UP:
The Bergen Record's political blog notes: It’s the third time Christie has tried to hold this event, which was twice cancelled due to inclement weather, and the first time he will take questions in person from residents since he fired his deputy chief of staff after finding out she apparently ordered the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge last September.
In the lead up to the event, Christie has taken to social media to promote his town halls sharing Youtube video clips of prior events, including the time his son Andrew texted him in the middle of an event. He tweeted that he was sharing some of his “favorite moments” from prior town hall-style events and also encouraged people to RSVP for today’s event. Christie also shared a video his staff made showing what it takes to set up a town hall, that video was used to promote his 100th event last year. The governor suspended the events as he ran for a second term last year, but pledged to bring them back even as the George Washington Bridge controversy grew.
Christie says the events allow him to directly help constituents and hear their concerns, but they also help him deliver his message to residents unfiltered by the media. That message is then neatly packaged into Youtube moments, which are shared on the internet and tweeted to the governor’s more than 400,000 followers. Here's one of the videos Christie Tweeted:
