Nearly two years into the pandemic, New York City is once again in the grips of rising virus infections and the threat of business and school closures.

Adams became the second Black mayor in the city’s history after a brief swearing-in ceremony event in Times Square.

Adams was forced to postpone his inauguration ceremony at Brooklyn Kings Theater because of coronavirus concerns.

The swearing-in marks the end of Michael Bloomberg's 12 years in office.

At midnight, he'll go from Mayor-elect to Mayor of the biggest city in the U.S.
