The body of a naked woman was found floating in the Bronx River off East 226th street earlier today. The woman, who is described by the Daily News as "black and in her 20s or 30s," was discovered after people using the green space between the river and Bronx Boulevard found blood on the jogging path. "There's blood on the pathway, it looks like she was killed and dragged into the water," a witness who was jogging nearby told the Post.
"When I first noticed her there I thought maybe somebody has just passed out. I couldn't believe it," the witness added. Authorities pronounced the unidentified woman dead at the scene, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. There are several bocce courts in the area, and neighbors tell the Daily News that "the area is a hangout where young people smoke pot and party." Another resident says, "If you're out here late at night, you should know better," and women in the area have complained about a man who has been exposing himself to women, especially those who are pregnant. A runner at the scene told the Post, "I thought this was a safe park. It was just shocking to see a body."
