Yesterday, it was reported that an 80-year-old woman was robbed and shoved to the ground in Chelsea for her gold chain by a mugger. Now there are two more reports of 80-something-year-olds being mugged and punched—and all three incidents happened this past Wednesday!
According to police, an 88-year-old woman was followed into her building on Saratoga Avenue in Brownsville by the suspect just before 8 p.m. Wednesday; the mugger punched her in the head, stole her pocketbook and fled on foot. The victim was transported to Woodhull Hospital in stable condition. The suspect is described as a 6'0" male in his 20s; he was wearing a blue coat, black cap, dark-colored pants with two white stripes down the sides, and black sneakers with white stripes. You can see video of the suspect following the victim into her building below (as well as a picture of him above right):
In the other incident, an 82-year-old man was punched in the face by a mugger around 6 a.m. Wednesday near 833 Concourse Village West in the Bronx. The suspect approached from behind, the knocked the man to the ground, punched the victim several times, stole his cash, then fled on foot. The victim sustained injuries to his nose, forehead and shoulder as a result of this incident and is listed in serious condition at Lincoln Hospital. You can see video of it below (and a screen shot from the surveillance video above left):
Police don't have a description of the suspect in the second mugging, but considering the locations of all three muggings (in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan), there's no indication that the incidents are connected.
