The MTA's "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign has been a massive advertising success story with copycat campaigns popping up over the world. So no surprise that the MTA is not only keeping the slogan around, they're expanding it with a new set of print ads and television spots. The commercials will start hitting the airwaves immediately and the print ads wil be on the streets in two weeks.
And what's new? While previous ads showed bags left unattended the new ones actually show nefarious folks placing in crowded spaces and leaving them there.
In a statement, MTA head Jay Walder said of the ads, “We are hardening our infrastructure and conducting enhanced policing in coordination with our regional law enforcement partners. But these ads reinforce the important role our customers will always play in ensuring the safety of transit users throughout the entire MTA system.”
The new $10 million campaign is funded by Homeland Security grants. Grants which the MTA totally earned—last year Homeland Security asked the MTA for permission to use the slogan nationwide. Meanwhile, since 2002 the MTA has licensed the trademarked slogan to 54 domestic and international transportation providers and government agencies for use in their own anti-terrorism campaigns.
