Cops have arrested the two diamond sellers who allegedly staged a $4 million heist, in which thieves dressed as Hasidic Jews pretended to clean out their safe at gunpoint. In reality, the owners of the Midtown wholesaler had stolen their own jewels and are now charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records! One of the hired thieves is in custody too, while one remains at large. "The whole thing was set up," one source said. It was also stolen from a popular crime flick.
On New Year's Eve two bearded thieves dressed in black coats and hats gained entrance to the midtown building where Dialite Imports is based. Once they were buzzed in, they unholstered their weapons in a scene that was eerily familiar: according to the Post, cops said the heist "mimics the opening scene of Snatch, in which Benicio Del Toro and a slew of diamond thieves disguise themselves as Hasidic Jews."
The fake Hasidim told Shah to hand over diamonds and jewels from a safe, and then immobilized the two owners with duct tape. But police say that security footage shows them removing the jewels prior to the thieves' arrival.
