[UPDATE BELOW]A five-year old child was shot in the Bronx this morning, and officials say he is in serious condition. The shooting happened sometime around 10:44 a.m., and officers were called to the scene at Third Avenue and Brook Avenue in Morrisania.
Police on the scene say the child was shot in the right arm, and ABC News reports the alleged shooter was the boy's father. Sources say the shooting occurred at 645 Westchester Avenue, and that the father may have been driving his child to a hospital when he was stopped by officers. According to the FDNY, the victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital.
The NYPD press office does not yet have any information regarding the incident; we will update when more details become available.
Update 1:46 p.m.: Sources now say the shooter may have been the victim's 11-year-old brother, and he may have been playing with the gun when it went off. Officers are also reportedly investigating whether or not the victim shot himself accidentally; he is currently listed in stable condition.
