Early this morning, two cars crashed into each other in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn. Three people were pronounced dead and three others were injured.

Police say that around 2 a.m., at the intersection of Avenue U and East 5th Street, a RedToyota traveling northbound on East 5th Street and a black Acura traveling eastbound on Avenue U struck each other. WCBS 2 reports, "The cars traveled a long distance down the road after the crash, and police believe speed might have been a factor. A witness told police the Acura went through a red light. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver reported seeing the Acura going at least double the speed limit—or 60 mph—before slamming on the brakes."

The Acura's driver was killed, while both driver and passenger in the Toyota were killed. One passenger in the Acura was ejected from the car and taken to the hospital; two others in the Acura were also put in the hospital.
