A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck by a U-Haul truck driver in The Bronx yesterday.
Police say that the incident happened around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Barretto Street near the Bruckner Expressway. The truck reportedly first struck another vehicle on Bruckner Boulevard, then sped away. About a block away, the driver struck the 17-year-old boy as he was crossing the street, and then smashed into a parked silver Honda Civic.
"When he went to go cross, that truck right there, it was going too fast. Right when the kid went to go look at the truck — boom! The kid just flew," witness Christine Bonaparte told CBS2. "When I came over here to see what happened, the kid was thrown on the floor, he was all full of blood and everything. It was a tragedy."
The victim, whom the Post has identified as Amaru Millin, was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition. The 36-year-old U-Haul driver, who suffered minor injuries, has a suspended license and was arrested. He is expected to be charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
