Last year police believe that 23-year-old Ronnell Jones and two of his friends broke into an apartment in Yonkers seeking cash and, surprised to find the apartment occupied, left in a hail of bullets that left two dead and four wounded, including a five-year-old boy. While his friends were apprehended, Jones managed to evade capture and now the Yonkers police think he is back in town—dressing as a woman to avoid notice.
"We've been told by several sources that he dresses like a woman," said Detective Lt. Timothy Hodges, Yonkers Major Case Squad leader. Police started looking for Jones in drag in February when police were tipped off that he would be going to a rap party at Webster Hall. And though some of his friends did show up, Jones did not.
As funny as someone hiding out in drag is (Some Like It Hot, anyone?) the police want to emphasize that Jones "is a dangerous person and we don't want to lose sight that he is out there." Last July the alleged cross-dressing-killer and his compatriots killed wheelchair-bound Kasheem Little, 21, also known as 'Killa Kash,' and "the leader of the Strip Boyz gang," and Carlton McLeod, 23, in their aborted robbery.
His co-robbers—Brian Roach, 21, of Yonkers and Daniel Sanchez, 23, of Brooklyn— have been charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery, burglary and weapon possession. And a grand jury has indicted Jones on the same charges. If you've seen Jones (or a woman who looks like him), or know anything of his whereabouts, police are offering a $5,000 reward and urge you to call Detective Marvin Oakley or Scott Griffith at 914-377-7725.
