[UPDATE BELOW] A funeral date has finally been set for 4-year-old Myls Dobson, who tragically died last week after allegedly suffering weeks of abuse at the hand of his caretaker. Rev. Al Sharpton will reportedly read a eulogy.
Myls's mother, 29-year-old Ashlee Dobson, finally claimed her son's body yesterday after it sat in the morgue for nearly a week. The body was released to Andrew Sorrentino Funeral Services in Brooklyn, which has handled arrangements for the family at no cost; the funeral itself will be held at Harlem’s First Corinthian Baptist Church on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Kryzie King, who is allegedly responsible for Myls's death refused to appear in court for her indictment yesterday, where she was charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault, child endangerment and unlawful imprisonment. King, a transgender performer, allegedly admitted to beating, starving and burning Myls since he had been left in her care on December 18th; on one occasion, she claimed she made him stand on an outdoor balcony in his underwear in subfreezing temperatures, and she allegedly deprived him of food to the point that the toddler lost 14 pounds in just a few weeks.
Update 4:27 p.m.: WSJ reports that Okee Wade, Myls' father, has been granted temporary release from a New Jersey county jail to attend his son's funeral. Wade, 37, was arrested and jailed on an outstanding warrant for bank fraud last month; he had previously left Myls in King's care.
