A group of elementary students got a lesson in the ways of the world this morning when a disturbed man, clad only in boxers, a white T-shirt, and a pair of socks on his hands (!), came tearing through Number 26 Elementary School in Paterson, hollering that he was being chased by men with guns who wanted to kill him.
Over 10 cop cars responded to the scene, and police say they were prepared to begin hostage negotiations with the supposedly armed men, until they realized that the hysterical half-naked man was referring to the officers who had been called to the scene on his behalf. They described the man’s account of what happened as a “misunderstanding."
The man was wrapped in a yellow plastic bag to cover his nether regions and escorted to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.
