Jimmy McMillan, he of perpetual office-seeking and a beard that would chagrin a topiary, is being evicted from his rent-stablized East Village apartment.
According to the Daily News, the freewheeling leader of the Rent Is Too Damn High party has been served an eviction notice ousting him from his $872 per month St. Marks apartment, on claims from the building's landlord that McMillan's primary residence is actually in Brooklyn.
McMillan has responded in kind, filing a suit with Brooklyn Federal Court that would not only allow him to maintain his residence, but demands $1.3 million in damages. He said in a complaint that the landlord's attempt to oust him has nothing to do with any alleged second residence—that it's merely a ploy to evict rent-stabilized tenants. Wouldn't be the first time.
