Have you ever noticed that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly—father of goof-prone Good Day New York host Greg Kelly and frequently dropped name for the head of the FBI—always seems to have a snazzy, eye-catching tie wrapped around his neck? There is a good reason for that! As the Commish tells Women's Wear Daily, as far as he is concerned ties are "the only true way men can make some sort of statement.” And the statement Kelly likes to send is, it seems, 'I wear expensive ties from France.'
See, Kelly's favorite ties are without a doubt from the French clothier Charvet, whose ties retail for $200 and up. Good thing Kelly makes $189,700-a-year. “I can tell when someone’s wearing Charvet from a distance," Kelly tells the fashion rag, "even dark colors stand out.”
Kelly, who like his father before him ties his ties with a Windsor knot, isn't the only powerful man with a fondess for Charvet. The Commish points out that President Obama is "also a Charvet tie wearer, not all the time, but he does wear Charvet ties."
And all that dress up isn't for nothing! It is a good example for the troops. “Detectives are looking better than ever before,” Kelly thinks. Which is good, since “I think they feel better and that probably makes them work better."
