A woman was killed by a driver in a hit-and-run incident on the Harlem River Drive near Washington Heights Sunday evening, the NYPD said.
According to police, officers received a call around 7:30 p.m. of a pedestrian struck by a driver on the roadway underneath the High Bridge. The woman allegedly entered the road while the unidentified driver was traveling northbound.
The driver then struck the woman, who was flung onto the pavement and suffered severe head trauma. Police say the driver fled the scene and the woman was transported to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver has yet to be identified and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.
According to city Vision Zero data as of August 31st, 52 pedestrians have been killed by drivers in the five boroughs before Sunday’s incident.
