The police are hoping the public can help them find a suspect wanted for illegally driving a long overdue rental car who escaped from their custody yesterday.

According to the NYPD, officers pulled over a 2013 Altima just before 2 p.m. near 3053 Atlantic Avenue after seeing the female driver "operating [the car] without wearing a seatbelt." The police then discovered the car had been rented on January 30th and was supposed to go back on January 31—it was never returned. Then they found out the driver, Carmen Riley, had a suspended license. So they arrested Riley, 30, charging her with unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operator.

At about 3:55 p.m., police say Riley complained she wasn't feeling well, so they took her to Brookdale Hospital, where, at 5:40 p.m., "she escaped police custody and exited the hospital."

Police say Riley has tattoos on the right side of her neck and on her hand. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
