Gunnison Beach in New Jersey is like most beaches, only with a lot more skin. The beach has been open to nudists since it became a public beach in 1974, but lately the naked faithful not only need to worry about getting sunburned butts, they need to worry about people snapping pictures.
According to the regulars, more and more people have been coming to the beach for the sole purpose of taking pictures of the naked attendees, then uploading them to websites. And it's usually not to praise their bronze bodies. Dale Distasio, a regular "naturalist," said that she found one such site had posted a picture of three, uh, bigger women, with the caption, "Manatees" under it.
In an effort to curb the photographing creeps and the online attacking, Gunnison regulars have begun to fight fire with fire. A schoolteacher named Eric takes pictures of the people who spy on the nudists and then posts them to a Gunnison Facebook page, labeling them "Beach geeks." He could've been a little more harsh with the wording, but apparently the technique is working.
"When we ask them to stop, they say, ‘It’s a free country!’ and we say, ‘You know what, sir? You’re right.’ Then ‘click,’ we take their picture," explained Eric. "And they freak out: ‘I’m a schoolteacher!’ or ‘I’m just here to look!’ You would not believe how many people come here fully clothed, sit there taking pictures, and leave when we take their picture."
Apparently naked people can dole out swift justice in addition to taking in a casual bike ride.
