On Wednesday afternoon, a small bank in a bucolic NJ town was robbed by a person wearing a red wig and sunglasses—and holding a large gun. Police released photographs of the suspect, who may have taken over $100,000, but are unable to say whether the suspect is a man or a woman.

Around 10:30 a.m., the Glen Rock Savings Bank was struck by the suspect. The Bergen Record reported yesterday, "Police said the robber was about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. He or she wore a black coat, white boots — or white material pulled down over the boots — and was carrying a large handbag, authorities said. In the photos, the robber, also wearing black gloves, can be seen brandishing the handgun at the bank, located at 183 Rock Road. Police Chief Frederick Stahman said the sex of the robber had not been established."

It's also believed the gun, which was ditched in the snow, may be a paintball gun.

Now, the Record is really hammering home the unknown gender aspect. From a story updated today, "Are police on a manhunt or a ladyhunt?"

In the comments section of the Record’s online article on the bank robbery, Rich Eldridge noted the suspect “looks like Mick Jagger.”

Cliff Cernek, meanwhile, suggested the police look into Bruce Jenner’s whereabouts Wednesday morning — a reference to widespread speculation that the former Olympian and reality TV star is transitioning to become a woman.

Darla Varga weighed in that life must be difficult “when your gender is unidentifiable,” saying she “would be insulted” if she were the robber.

And Alex Hofscheidner referenced a popular phrase from the “Austin Powers” film series in his comment: “Mike Meyers says it best...‘It’s a MAN, BABY!!!’”

The commenters on the Glen Rock Police Department's Facebook page aren't any better, though amusing in a depressing way ("That's a big gun! It must be a woman...she's not foolin' around!").
