Creeping anonymously into Spigolo on the Upper East Side, one couple has been quietly picking up the checks of other diners, and refuse to reveal themselves to authorities! Customer Katie Barnhart, whose table racked up a $200 tab on a recent night, told the Post, "I was eating at the bar with my parents the weekend of Mother's Day—and we really splurged—but when we asked for the bill, the bartender said, 'It's been taken care of.' They also picked up the bill of two women sitting next to us." Unfortunately, the couple seems to have no formula for determining who gets to bask in their kindness.
A few servers know the couple, and bartender Paula Lukas said, "They usually don't wait around for a reaction. They don't want to boast. They're not that type of people." Their generosity is also good for servers, as tables will usually include a tip on top of their benefactors' tip. Judging by their generosity on Mother's Day weekend, we're guessing they may be present on other holidays... Father's Day is just around the corner, and Spigolo seems like the perfect place to take Dad out for dinner.
