So the 7 train to New Jersey is probably (definitely) not going to happen. But that doesn't mean the line's expansions will stop when it hits 11th Avenue. MTA head Joseph Lhota today says that, "I'd like to see the 7 train in other parts of New York City." Specifically, he'd like to see it going to Chelsea.
At the Regional Plan Association's 22nd annual Regional Assembly Lhota told the crowd he'd like to see the 7 someday head down to 23rd Street and the West Side Highway, as the area could definitely use more service. Now, hmmm... Where have we heard that idea before? Oh yeah! Earlier this year architect David Wright put forth a similar idea, though his proposal focused more on extending the L train up to the 7 (and then continuing on back across town to Tudor City). Either way, we like the idea of more trains. But! We also like the idea of the MTA getting its finances in order, so can we all agree to hold off on any more big projects until the current big projects are all wrapped up?
