The G train weekend suspensions, which were originally supposed to last for four weekends, will happen again later this year, with at least two more rounds of suspensions lasting at least a month each, according to Assemblyman Joe Lentol, who's pressuring the MTA to do a better job communicating with riders. To that end, NYC Transit spokesman Paul Fleuranges has emailed us to announce that this weekend the G will finally be running again—but just between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand.
To go beyond that station, riders will have to cross the platform to another G train "shuttle," which will be operating on a single track back and forth between Bedford-Nostrand and Hoyt-Schermerhorn. To proceed past that station, you'll need to take an A train in the opposite direction to Jay Street, and then ascend to the street level. Look for a man or woman behind the wheel of a crowded shuttle bus, and try to squeeze in, because there's no F or G train to Church Avenue. But don't worry; by the time you get there, it will probably be Monday morning, and subway service will resume for your journey back.
"There will probably be other G Line diversions later in the year for track work, but none that will shut the whole line at once, like this past service diversion did," insists Fleuranges. "We will give as much advance notice as possible of upcoming Service Diversions. One thing riders should do is sign up for email/text alerts for Planned Service Changes affecting the G. Log on to www.mta.info and look for the Electronic Notification Service info. They can pick the line(s) they want and each Thursday we send you the upcoming weekend's work." And as you already know, you can just forget about the 7 train between Long Island City and Manhattan.
