Police have identified the victims of a brutal stabbing that was discovered in a Brooklyn apartment just after midnight today: They are Larisa Prikhodko and her mother Tatyana Prikhodkoto; they both worked as nurses. According to the Daily News, Larisa, 27, worked in the maternity ward at Mount Sinai, while her mother was at Brookdale University Hospital. After Larisa failed to pick up her 3-year-old son from her former fiance, he called police, who went looking for them at the building where they both resided (in different apartments). Larisa's apartment was empty, but her mother's home, three floors up, was a grisly scene.
After forcing the door open, officers found Larisa Prikhodko’s body near the entrance and her mother’s body inside a bedroom. Both were stabbed repeatedly in the face and torso, and two knives were recovered at the scene. There was no sign of forced entry, but a police source tells the Wall Street Journal the mother may have barricaded herself inside the bedroom where she was found dead because a panel on the bedroom door had been broken off.
A friend of Larisa's told police she last spoke with her Saturday around 1 p.m. when she said she was taking a nap before going to work. Around 1:30 p.m., neighbors say they heard "a loud noise" in the apartment, the Journal reports. Tatyana's boyfriend, Russian national Nikolai Rakossi, also resided in the apartment, and police have told local airports to be on the lookout for him. But sources say he may have already fled the country, since he had over 24 hours before the bodies were discovered.
The beautiful Larisa Prikhodka reportedly had the attention of many of the men in the neighborhood. "Me and a group of friends would play football across from her building and we would stop and see her coming out and get into nice cars all the time," neighbor Patrick Romanowski tells the News. "We all asked ourselves, 'Who is this girl? What is she doing here?' You don't see girls like her around here like that very often."
