A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after he refused to give his sneakers to a man and was stabbed multiple times outside his home in the Bronx.
Police say the incident happened around 5 a.m. on Saturday outside the Butler Houses on Webster Avenue in Claremont Village. The victim, whom the News has identified as Theo Cooke, was reportedly drinking with his attacker when the suspect demanded his sneakers. When Cooke refused, the suspect took out a blade and stabbed him in his left arm, abdomen and right thigh.
Cooke was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Cops add that no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
"We're hurt, frustrated...in pain. We don't know if he's going to make it or not," Cooke's older sister told the News. Friends added that Cooke was a bit of a 'fashionista': "He's not someone you'd see getting robbed for his sneakers," said Ernesto Baez. "He likes fashion but he's not one of those guys who draws attention to himself."
At least two other people were stabbed in separate incidents over the weekend as well: a 19-year-old was slashed in the neck after an argument inside of a Popeyes in Harlem around 1 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and is expected to survive.
Then a 26-year-old woman was stabbed and slashed by two strangers on Holland Avenue in Williamsbridge around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital, and is expected to survive as well. No arrests have been made in either of those incidents.
