A 33-year-old man was killed on an East Village sidewalk yesterday afternoon. According to police, Shemrod Isaac was shot four time outside of 20 Avenue D—the Lillian Wald Houses—by an unknown suspect. Isaac, who lived at the building, was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital.
A resident, Jonathan Caraballo, told the Daily News, "I heard the shots. I looked out my window and saw this man laying down. Everyone was panicking." Police sources tell the tabloid that a man in his 30s "wearing a tan jacket, blue pants and multicolored hat, fled into a building on Roosevelt Drive," and that the two men were arguing before the shooting.

Caraballo also told the Post that Isaac had kids, "He was a nice guy. He cared about his kids." Isaac may have also been an aspiring rapper.
Another resident of the Wald Houses spoke to WCBS 2 about how the neighborhood has changed but not as much as some would think, "It’s not shocking to know that it happened around this neighborhood. This neighborhood is known for its crime. It’s not as it was before 10 years ago."
