Early yesterday morning, a woman fell to her death outside an Upper West Side townhouse. It's believed that 37-year-old woman was locked out of an apartment at 152 West 76th Street, so she tried to climb in from the outside.
The woman was identified as Marta Perez. The Daily News reports that she was "known for sneaking into the W. 76th St. brownstone through the roof - and it appears that's what she was trying to do Friday. " According to City Room, "She went to the roof and tried to get in using a cable, but lost her grip and fell to the ground into a neighbor’s backyard." The News says the incident occurred around 10:20 a.m., while City Room says Perez attempted the climb at 4 a.m. and her body was discovered at 10:00 a.m.
WABC 7 reports that Perez "was dating a man on the fourth floor here and they always remember her walking her dog." The News adds that she had a "troubled past... Her rap sheet - dating to 1997 - includes convictions for assault, weapons possession and selling drugs." This past April, a man who was apparently locked out of his Greenwich Village apartment died while trying to scale a wall in an attempt to enter through a balcony.
