Mets 5 San Francisco 2: Mike Pelfrey was good over 7-2/3 innings, allowing only one earned run while striking out 5 to earn his second win of the season. Carlos Beltran hit his 5th homer of the year while Jose Reyes had a 2-run triple. K-Rod came on in the 8th and saved the game, despite loading the bases with one-out in the 9th. The Mets will now face the only team in worse financial straits than they are, the LA Dodgers.
Detroit 6 Yankees 3: AJ Burnett was inconsistent and Eduardo Nunez butchered two plays in the field as the Yankees lost their third-straight game. New York led 2-1 after four, thanks to an Eric Chavez triple. The triple was costly as Chavez broke a bone in his foot running the bases. Detroit tied things up in the six and scored three times in the 7th, the last two runs scoring on Nunez's second error of the game. Jose Valverde earned the save for Detroit and celebrated like he had won the World Series. The Yankees now head to Texas for a three-game set.
