Police are investigating more than 30 dogs and cats—and a large South American lizard—found dead in garbage bags along the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester. “It was disturbing,” Westchester County SPCA Chief Ernie Lungaro said. “Some were eaten by mice and bug-infested. It was obviously a very strong odor.” Maybe the person responsible was the same one who swung by Teddy's in Cobble Hill last week?
Commissioner George Longworth told NBC the bags were found Thursday morning by a maintenance crew, in a grassy area beside the Westchester Avenue entrance ramp to the northbound Hutch. The animals were in various states of decomposition—he added that this was one of the most bizarre cases he has ever come across in his decades in law enforcement.
Authorities have ordered necropsies to determine how the animals died, and get a better sense of how long they've been out there. Last year, several animal parts were found around various parks in Westchester (including an incredibly creepy animal's heart-within-a-chalk heart)—police believe those were ritualistic animal killings.
