Until umlaut-ridden, personal airbags for cyclists become the norm, we'll continue to count on the tried and true method to protect our moneymakers. But believe it or not, some drivers who hit you may not stop to provide assistance, and the authorities can't be everywhere all the time. That's why a new device that attaches to your helmet will sense that you've been in a crash and notify your loved ones and emergency contacts.

The company that makes the OnStar-esque sensor, ICEdot, says the device will save your GPS coordinates, and trigger a countdown clock on your smartphone that you can deactivate in case the crash isn't serious (preventing your mother from thinking you've gotten into a horrific accident every time you try to toss your helmet onto the coatrack and miss). The ICEdot will be available for sale beginning next year.
