No need to call Saul! Last night, police were investigating a West 54th Street apartment that neighbors believed might have had a meth lab—but it turned out to be a "man who lives there was just mixing baking soda and table salt."

According to NBC New York, "The NYPD responded to calls of a dispute at 431 West 54th... and found a third-floor apartment with possible hazardous liquids inside. Neighbors also complained about a toxic smell burning their eyes, prompting the police to investigate it further." The Daily News says neighbors thought it was a meth lab and the bomb squad was called, forcing the partial evacuation of the building.

It turned out to be harmless, non-toxic items the man was using to make bath salts (well, legal ones). Cops, though, were talking to a "shaggy-haired suspect in his 40s whose cluttered third-floor apartment reeked of ammonia and cat urine." The suspect was taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psych exam. A cop told the News that the man's apartment was terrible, "It’s a real s--thole in there. This guy has got a real drug problem."
