Coney Island is apparently getting a 40-story glass tower, because Cyclone cars need something sharp to smash into when they finally start flying off their ancient rails.
A tipster sent New York YIMBY renderings of the new tower, planned for 532 Neptune Avenue near West 6th Street. YIMBY got word that the building was coming to town back in January, much to the chagrin of area residents, who were upset that the building took the place of the popular Trump Village Shopping Center. Maybe Trump will build them another one when he's president?
The site, which also happens to be located atop a large toxic dump, will soon be home to 524 apartments, 162,000 square feet of retail space, and 470-feet of boring glass and steel. The development is helmed by SLCE Architects, which doesn't have the new renderings on its website yet, though partial job permits were issued earlier this summer.
The tower will be the tallest in the neighborhood—in fact, Curbed notes that it'll be the tallest building in Southern Brooklyn. Soon the whole city will disappear into the shadows of swaying, glass-walled tombs, and people will look back nostalgically on the low-rent days of 2015.
