An electric motorcycle rider was killed when he collided with an ambulance in Brooklyn on Sunday, NYPD officials said.
The crash took place near Ashland Place and Willoughby Street in Fort Greene around 1:10 a.m., according to the department.
Police said an ambulance was heading north on Ashland Place when it struck Ray Wilkerson Lynwood, the 65-year-old motorcyclist, who was heading south and crossed the double-yellow line.
Police said the ambulance was in the area looking for a man in distress at the time of the collision and had its emergency and flood lights on.
Lynwood was transported to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
The crash occurred blocks from his last known home address, according to authorities.
The NYU Langone Health ambulance driver, a 21-year-old woman, and two crew members, a 29-year-old woman and 28-year-old man, were also taken to the hospital, police said.
An NYU Langone representative said no one on the crew sustained any injuries.
“At the time of the accident, our ambulance was responding to a call and following all policies and protocols. They immediately stopped to render care to the individual until other first responders arrived on scene,” spokesperson Steve Ritea said.
“We are cooperating with NYPD investigators,” he added. “This was a tragic accident and our sympathies are with the family of the deceased.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
