Last month, a police officer was stabbed in the head by an emotionally disturbed man. A knife with a 3.5" blade was driven into Police Officer Eder Loor's head, penetrating his skull and brain. A doctor called Loor "the luckiest unlucky man you could ever have." Today, Loor left Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Loor said, “I’m not 100 percent normal but I’m just happy that I’m alive." And his wife, Dina, who is pregnant with their second child (the couple will be celebrating their first child's fifth birthday), said, "I just can’t thank God enough for giving us a second chance at life together."
The man who stabbed Loor, Terrance Hale, 26, was charged with attempted aggravated murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. While his mother had called 911 to say her son was bipolar and hadn't taken his meds and asked for help at her Third Avenue and 107th Street apartment, she felt the police were not trained to handle the matter, "They did not get backup, and they did not do their job right."
