There's not much going on in the local weather forecast so let's jump down into the sordid hole of perspicacious groundhog prognostications. You may recall that our beloved mayor-biting Staten Island Chuck predicted an early Spring. So did Chuck's sadly more famous country cousin Punxsutawney Phil. Spring did not come early and now comes word that the Butler County, Ohio prosecuting attorney has indicted Phil for his poor prediction. (That Fox News report straightforwardly covers the indictment as real.) Curiously, the prosecutor does not go after Buckeye Chuck, who lives in Marion and is Ohio's Official Groundhog, who also predicted an early spring. The prosecutor is calling for the death penalty for Phil if the large rodent is found guilty of "Misrepresentation of early spring" because killing animals is comedy gold! We wonder what Butler County residents John Boehner and Greg Dulli think of this use of their tax money.

Closer to home it remains a mystery why Staten Island Chuck did not see his shadow on February 2nd. There was not a cloud in the sky that morning. Was Chuck lying or did his interpreter, City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, "misinterpret" his message?

For this weekend the big weather maker is still the low pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes. Winds circulating around that low means we'll have a cool northwesterly breeze today and tomorrow. Today's high will be around 40 degrees and tomorrow might reach the mid 40s. Sunday is likely to be a couple degrees warmer, but sunny skies early will give way to increasing clouds as a weak coastal storm approaches the region. That storm might brush us with some rain or snow on Monday. High pressure behind that storm should usher in more seasonable temperatures next week.
