Rush & Molloy are hearing from people unhappy with NY State Republican chairman Ed Cox, who is also known as Richard Nixon's son-in-law and the guy who wants a former Democrat to be on the Republican ticket for governor, and have a theory about why it's been so hard to find a Republican to run against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Cox blockers suspect that "Cox wants to 'throw' the race so he and wife Tricia's 31-year-old son, Christopher, can run against Gilly two years from now."
A Cox hater tells R&M, "It's the most winnable race, but Ed hasn't come up with anybody who can beat Gillibrand I think he's taking a dive for Chris. It's the only explanation." However, a Cox defender says he did try to get Dan Senor to run and NY State GOP spokesman also adds, "There's no reason he would sacrifice that for the ambitions of his son. Not to mention that this is Chris' first go-around as a candidate. Surely, no one would expect him to be ready to run for the Senate two years from now."
As for rumors that people are scandalized that Christopher Cox is marrying 20-year-old Gristede's heiress Andrea Catsimatidis (pictured), a Cox friend laughs, "How shocking - she wears miniskirts! This is first love for both of them. They make each other happy."
