Score one for the Weather Service! Their forecast for the timing and amount of snow in the city was spot on. The NWS said the city would get between 6 and 12 inches of snow. Measured snowfall ranged from 5.8 inches on Staten Island to 12.1 inches in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx. The snowfall winner in this storm was eastern Connecticut, where Newtown reported 27 inches.
And now for some cold and windy days. The dew point has dropped into the teens as a cold, dry air mass gets sucked into the region behind the rapidly departing storm. A west wind will be blowing at 10-15 mph pushing the wind chill down into the teens for much of the day. Bundle up out there. It will be a brisk night as the winds will continue and the temperature should plummet to the lower 20s under clear skies.
High pressure is going to stick around for a couple of days, bringing mostly clear skies tomorrow and Friday. Look for temperatures to run a good ten degrees cooler than normal, with highs in the upper 20s and lows in the teens. There should be a slight warming over the holiday weekend.
