The Chris Christie civil rights apology tour continues! After flubbing his first apology by going and calling a New Jersey lawmaker "numbnuts," the Garden State gov took to the airwaves yesterday to again apologize to anyone he might have offended when he suggested white Southerners should have been allowed to vote on civil rights gains for blacks in the 1960s. But he's not sorry about calling Assemblyman Reed Gusciora "numbnuts," okay?
"Anybody who was offended by what I said, if you’re listening out there tonight, I apologize for that," Christie said on New Jersey 101.5’s monthly radio call-in show yesterday. "I didn’t mean to offend anybody, and if I did I’m sorry."
As for the numbnuts dig, Christie says he learned it from his late mother and isn't taking it back. "I don’t know when people lost their sense of humor," he said. "That was, I thought, a pretty light slap at a guy who compared me to George Wallace and Lester Maddox, who were two absolutely vile people in the political history of our country."
Sadly for us, in his second round of apologies Christie refrained from using any of the other schoolyard insults we suggested he try out. Maybe next time!
