A day after delivering his State of the State address, NJ Governor Chris Christie spent this morning speaking to the national media about how Congress needs to fund Hurricane Sandy relief—and how he hates his Time magazine cover. On Imus in the Morning, Christie said, "I’m reporting Time magazine to the, like, anti-Italian defamation league. I mean, look at that thing. It says ‘boss’ underneath. I mean come on."
The Star-Ledger points out that Christie's mother is Italian-American and reports that the governor said the cover was "not kind." He also said, "I can’t wait for that thing to come home for my kids to see it." Well, isn't his friend Bruce Springsteen the boss? So it's flattering, in spite of the unflattering image?
Christie would not directly answer a question from the Today Show's Matt Lauer about whether he supports an assault weapons ban.
Christie would only say that in order to avoid tragedies like the Newtown, Conn. school shooting, gun control needs to be talked about as well as violence in the media, mental health and substance abuse.
“All you’re focusing on right now is gun control. What about the violence in our video games?” Christie told host Matt Lauer. “The fact is we need to have a conversation about all these things. We have a woman, Matt, in Camden who decapitated her child and then killed herself while high on crack.”
When pressed further by Lauer on why he won’t give a yes or no answer, Christie said “these are complicated issues.”
“The fact is I’m willing to have that conversation, that’s more than a lot of people will say,” he said.
