Finally, the TSA is weighing in on the Egyptair passenger who, after a flight from JFK Airport, was detained at Cairo's airport because of his two 9mm guns, ammunition, swords, daggers and knives in his baggage. The agency said that checking weapons in bags was totally fine as long as they were declared to the airline, but regulations differ in various countries, so passengers should check the rules in their destinations. Plus, the TSA screeners just check for explosives, not firearms.

In this instance, Mohamed Ibrahim Khallaf of Freehold, NJ, identified as a botany teacher, did not declare his various weapons, which were discovered during a routine customs check. Khallaf was reportedly "behaving nervously." He was detained for questioning.

The name Mohamed Ibraheim matches the name of a professor of palynology and applied micropaleontology "who was a visiting scientist at the Florida Museum of Natural History at UF. Ibrahim conducted research under a Fulbright fellowship from January to June 2006."
