A 70-year-old CBS employee was hospitalized after being struck by a driver in Midtown yesterday afternoon. According to reports, he is now in critical condition.
The NY Post reports that the victim, Landal Hoilette, is employed by CBS News, though it is unclear what position he holds there. Authorities say Hoilette was crossing mid-block on West 57th Street near 11th Avenue at around 1:50 p.m. yesterday when he was struck by a 31-year-old female driver in a Nissan sedan. The driver remained at the scene, and Hoilette was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital; no charges are expected to be filed.
Hoilette's son, Keith Crawford, says his father was on his way to lunch when he was struck. "He was hurt bad. All we know was he was under the car and they had to get him out,” he told the Post. “We saw him in the hospital. They had to sedate him. His niece is staying with him."
As part of the city's initiative to cut down on pedestrian deaths, the NYPD has been attempting to crack down on jaywalking, ticketing offenders and urging pedestrians to heed street safety rules.
