The man accused of killing four people at a Long Island pharmacy and stealing thousands of prescription drug pills has dropped his court-appointed attorney for one with a higher profile. In fact, it's a "Long Island Lolita" kind of profile: Eric Naiburg, who represented Amy Fisher in the attempted murder of Mary Buttafuoco, is now representing David Laffer, recent jury duty decliner.

Newsday runs down Naiburg's history with infamous defendants: "Richard Angelo, a nurse known as the "Angel of Death," who was convicted of killing four patients with lethal injections in 1987; James Troiano, one of three Northport teenagers who were convicted of killing another teen during a satanic ritual in 1984; and Scott Carroll, convicted in 1988 of raping several women on the South Shore in the 1980s." And then, of course, there's Fisher, whose crime of passion (the 17-year-old had been having an affair with Buttafuoco's 36-year-old husband Joey) sparked national interest and three TV movies (and some hilarious SNL sketches, like "BET presents, Amy Fisher: One Messed Up Bitch"). Fisher ended up pleading guilty to aggravated assault and served six years in prison.

In a video for his law firm, Naiburg explains why he takes on high-profile suspects, "It is rare for both me and any criminal practitioner to say that there is not one redeeming quality of an individual... Generally, there is a real defense... There is always something to hang on to."
