A 13-year-old boy was arrested at a Harlem housing project on Thursday, and cops say he shot a gun at a fellow teenager. Officers allege that Elmo Williams, 13, was spotted opening fire on a 14-year-old boy outside the Jefferson Houses in Hamilton Heights at around 3 p.m. on Thursday. They arrested him and confiscated the weapon, an Interarms Star 9mm handgun.
According to the Post, Williams is a "nerdy" boy who was out to avenge his target for recently beating him up. The unnamed 14-year-old was reportedly a member of a gang called 10-40. "They were two rival gangs," an anonymous source said. "The two kids had previously gotten into a fight, so yesterday Elmo decided to shoot at the kid from across the street."
Neighbors say they're surprised by Williams' alleged actions, and describe him as fairly introverted. "I’m shocked," a friend of Williams told the Post. "It’s not something I expect him to do." Williams, who claims he just found the gun, was taken to a juvenile detention center right after the incident. He is expected to be served with a number of charges, including attempted murder and attempted assault, in court next week.
