Ignore those sad raincloud icons hanging out over the majority of next week, for spring is here, and your iPhone knows nothing. NOTHING. Of course, if the sky does release its fat, cold tears, you can stave off your own by shoving food in your face. Works every time! Here's where to eat this week:
On Monday, Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg will host an ArtLab event focusing on the biology of microbes in beer. Science nerds and beer enthusiasts alike will learn how yeast and bacteria affects the taste of their favorite brews, plus Brewmaster Garrett Oliver will give attendees an inside look at the chemistry behind beer brewing. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and costs $10 to attend; you can purchase a ticket online.
Tuesday's mighty packed, with not one, not two, but three food events on the table. First, Grand Central Terminal's food stalls will celebrate National Beer Day (yep) with a whole bunch of specials, including a Bayou Beast slice/Abita beer combo for $8 at Two Boots; $2 off a 12 oz. Sapporo Premium beer with the purchase of a Chirashi Bowl at Shiro of Japan, and half off a Brooklyn Lager or Sixpoint if you order any deluxe burger at Junior's Restaurant.
Also on Tuesday, Benoit in Midtown will kick off its annual cochon dinners. Chef Philippe Bertineau will serve a slow-roasted pork dinner each week, with this week's incarnation clocking in at suckling pig a la Nicoise. You can also score wine and beer pairings curated by sommelier, Gina Goyette. The dinners are $34 per person and reservations can be made online; do note that there are only 40 plates per night, so book it fast.
And on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Wythe Hotel will host chefs from San Francisco's Bar Tartine for a special four-course dinner with wine pairings. Dishes will likely include smoked potatoes with black garlic and ramp mayonnaise; and green chili fisherman’s stew with collards and mushrooms, and seatings are at 7 p.m. The dinner runs $140 a head; you can purchase a seat online.
Thursday's also got a few events on tap. First, The Camlin in Williamsburg will offer its new lunch service, which runs Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dishes include small plates from the dinner menu, along with a Ploughman's Lunch— cheese and ham, deviled egg with whole grain mustard and bread—and a slew of rotating sandwich specials.
And last but not least, also on Thursday, Korean pop-up Yooeating?! will team up with Bombshell Bakers to throw a "Coney Island Baby Burlesque x Food Pop-Up"at Passenger Bar in Williamsburg. Starting at 7:30 p.m., you can score free Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner; by 8:30 p.m., they'll be dishing out Korean Detroit-style Coney dogs, spiced popcorn, cotton candy and doughnuts; and burlesque and go-go dancing courtesy of Wae Messed will go down at 9 p.m. The event has a suggested donation of $10.
