A new initiative by one of the world’s largest museums is a response to public pressure.

The Met said it has come to a mutual agreement with the families of Dr. Mortimer Sackler and Dr. Raymond Sackler so the museum can "further its core mission."

There are two complementary new photography exhibits at The Met that are worth checking out.

Police confirmed that an "unattended bag" was reported around 2 p.m. on Monday at 81st Street and Fifth Avenue, just outside the entrance to the museum.

The constituency of the Met has also changed. The museum reports that 90 percent of its current visitors are from the metro area. That’s an unprecedented number, according to Met director Max Hollein.

The exhibit, which opened this week, would have provided the theme of the 2020 Met Gala.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the city's first museums to reopen after an extended closure throughout the pandemic.

The museum will initially be open five days a week, from Thursday through Monday, and at 25% capacity.

The Met is planning to reopen on August 29th with new social distancing guidelines in place, and the New-York Historical Society will have an outdoor exhibit starting August 14th.

For the first time ever, The Met will have an exhibit dedicated entirely to the iconic instruments of rock and roll.
