Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the plans to rename the 11-acre waterfront park in honor of Johnson at this weekend's Human Rights Campaign Gala.

The monument to Shirley Chisholm will go up in 2020 in Prospect Park.

By 2022, there will be 12 women honored with statues in NYC (there are currently 145 male historical statues).

Chisholm will become the 6th or 7th statue depicting a real woman in New York City, to the 145 depicting men.

At last count, there were 145 male historical statues in NYC, and just 5 female historical statues.
